Murder on the Orient Express - Agatha Christie

I pray that you are doing well ๐Ÿ™. Things look grey in India, people are dying due to COVID and lack of oxygen everywhere. I truly feel grateful to be born in a family, wherein I have a home, family, food and moreover health in this crucial time. Please take all the precautions and have faith in God. Remember this too shall pass๐Ÿ˜”. My condolences to all who have died in this fight๐ŸŒน.        I was preoccupied with work, this month almost completely and hence no post. Will try to be consistent.       I am somewhat familiar with Agatha Christie's body of work,  that she wrote detective, murder , mystery stories. And also watched an old movie adaptation of the novel "and then there were none". So, happen to pick this one. The story begins, with a famous Belgian detective Hercule Poirot traveling from Syria to Stamboul by the sleeping car(train) Taurus Express ๐Ÿš‚, He was summoned here by an officer on a case, having closed it successfully, ...

A room with a view - E M Forster

This is the story of a young girl named Lucy who has come to Florence along with her cousin Bartlett, for a visit. She is a native of London and her neighbourhood there, to put it bluntly is too poised and proper for her. People just didn't speak their mind because they didn't want to come cross and women hardly knew what having a mind of their own really is. She felt like, she wanted to experience a totally different world and she knew she would find it in Italy. They lived in a pension named Bertolini, and there they meet quite a few interesting characters. A father and son duo named Emerson's, wherein the father although polite, had no filter whatsoever when he spoke and which was often mistaken for a rude behaviour by others. His son George, looked as if he lost something in life. A Mr. Beebe, a clergyman who was an acquaintance of Lucy, who happens to like knowing what the young want. Mr Eager, who poured himself into poetry, history everything his intellec...

OF MICE AND MEN - By John Steinbeck

Hello there ! I hope you are doing well. This book is written in the year 1937, and discribes the life of farm workers at the time of Great depression in California. It's the story of two people named George Milton and Lennie Small, they have moved from Weed, in search for work at a ranch nearby Soledad.George has known Lennie since he was young, and have worked together.         Lennie was a child in a man's body. His personality physically was huge but his brain filled with innocence. He wasn't bright and couldn't remember much, but had the best of intentions at heart. George knew this well, and after his aunt passed, he pretty much became his guardian. Lennie almost had an obsession to pet soft things and always got in trouble for that. He killed a cat, a dog and much worse a human later on in the story.     (Spoiler alert) These two buddies always dreamed about having their own land, having a house, farming and tending to rabbits. It's with ...

1984 - Big Brother is watching

Image
Hi there! I hope you are doing well๐ŸŒน. I picked up the task of reading this book, without giving it any thought, quite literally.. Me now->๐Ÿค” why do you do this to yourself. Anyways, this is a very popularly suggested books by people who enjoy psychological thriller/dystopian world/a bit of science fiction. So, as you might know I enjoy none of those but we will get to my feelings later on.     The story revolves around a person named Winston Smith, he is a member of the party in Oceania. In the world of Oceania, the ruling entity/party is called the Big Brother. The whole of the population of Oceania are under constant surveillance by this party , all the time, every day, throughout your life i.e even when you are at home bathing, reading you get the point. Here normal people cannot have a thought of their own! This is actually considered abnormal. Our protagonist is definitely someone who would fall into the later category. Winston tries his best to make sense...

Hi there !๐Ÿ™‚

I am scarletkite, I am 23 years old and a resident of the culturally rich and vibrant country India.           I have never travelled much to other states either. I have quite literally spend my whole life here and let me tell you life can become quite mundane very quickly and you just want to immerse yourself into something more interesting. Books provide that escape for me, thanks to my English teachers in high school I am forever indebted to them for igniting my thirst for reading๐Ÿ™.         I quickly grasped that reading can take you on an adventure, rattle your belief system, take your emotions on rollercoaster ride and experience life through the eyes of someone else altogether.         So this brings me to the objective of this blog. I will be blogging about books I have read, my key takeaways from it, some relevant anecdotes from my own life through which I could relate to it. I am excited to do this an...

Planning ๐Ÿ“

Now, when I have taken up blogging I intend to be disciplined such that I can firstly , proactively read as many books as I can and then share about those books to other book lovers or anyone who's interested with my insights blended and a touch of humour ๐Ÿ˜€.     I love "  Classic & Mystery ❤️" genres. These genre of books were the ones that got me into reading. But I do explore other genres as well to make things interesting and refreshing ๐Ÿน once in a while.     Now, how do I intend to accomplish this hmm๐Ÿค”. So the most realistic deadline that I can think of, which I will honour will be a week. I can decide on my next book either on Saturday or Sunday. Complete reading it by next Saturday and post on Sundays. A typical classic novel has 400 pages, and If I give myself 7 days I would have to read about 57 pages each day . I think this is reasonable, I can definitely make time for an hour ⌛from my life to read novel peacefully, enjoy and savour it. ...

IKIGAI : Japanese secret to a long and happy life

I don't know If it is just me, but I find it really difficult to complete reading a self help book๐Ÿ’ญ๐Ÿค”. Now that I ponder over it, maybe because every sentence is oozing with meaning, purpose and so much wisdom about various things that a short read makes my head feel heavy as a hammer๐Ÿ”จ and I need time to process it.     Needless to say, I have seen this book being recommended by several acclaimed people, booktubers , FB book groups and thought I should read formyself and see if it helps me in any way. This book reinforces the idea of finding an activity that we love and keep doing it , if that feels fulfilling to you known as ikigai and if you have none, then explore. Build good connection of friends and keep them close. 80% rule for eating, try creating multiple sources of income and take responsibility of your life.       The book explains all the above and many more by introducing us to a place named Okinawa in Japan, the centenarians livin...
