Hello there ! I hope you are doing well. This book is written in the year 1937, and discribes the life of farm workers at the time of Great depression in California.
It's the story of two people named George Milton and Lennie Small, they have moved from Weed, in search for work at a ranch nearby Soledad.George has known Lennie since he was young, and have worked together.
        Lennie was a child in a man's body. His personality physically was huge but his brain filled with innocence. He wasn't bright and couldn't remember much, but had the best of intentions at heart. George knew this well, and after his aunt passed, he pretty much became his guardian. Lennie almost had an obsession to pet soft things and always got in trouble for that. He killed a cat, a dog and much worse a human later on in the story.
    (Spoiler alert) These two buddies always dreamed about having their own land, having a house, farming and tending to rabbits. It's with this goal that they worked on the fields and would remind themselves all the time. But unfortunately it didn't and things get tragic very quick. 
    I am very pleased with the book. I did have a good cry at the end. Personally mental retardness/ disability is an issue very close to me. I have a brother who has downs syndrome, and the challenges are sometimes overwhelming. The biggest of it being that people in society know nothing about it and they talk trash, this has hurt me and my parents numerous times. But thanks to the present times atleast there are special needs school and communities that can help. I would like to mention that, if you have someone in your family like this, please don't overthink about their future, show your love and support as much as possible now. Please don't spoil your health and mental peace. Don't blame yourself. 
   This book although short has touched numerous aspects of the then society. The old man who wants to work on his farm and die on his own terms, An African who just wants to make friends, be respected and have someone to talk to, A couple having trust issues and finally a friend trying to protect a weak one. This was a good read, I enjoyed it very much.🌹

Hi all ! To the readers that I still don't have, this is one of the classics in English literature that does get introduced in cbse curriculum in indian school. Although they only include an except and not the whole story, due to the sheer length of it. I had this in one of my school days too.         Now, during the occasional surf over the internet to read some comics, I came across a website that had a collection of illustrated classic novels. I am not sure if the site is legal, but it says these are classics illustrated a comic book series by Albert Kanter.
